I can now offer EMDR in practice after completing the first part of the training.
EMDR is a structured, evidence-based psychotherapy used to help people process and recover from distressing or traumatic experiences. It is recognised by the NHS, NICE, and the World Health Organization as an effective treatment for trauma and post-traumatic stress.
Traumatic or overwhelming experiences can sometimes become ‘stuck’ in the brain. When this happens, memories may continue to feel raw, intrusive, or emotionally charged long after the event has passed. EMDR works by helping the brain reprocess these memories so they can be stored in a more adaptive and less distressing way.
During EMDR, you are guided to briefly focus on a difficult memory while engaging in bilateral stimulation. This usually involves side-to-side eye movements, tapping, or alternating sounds. This process helps reduce the emotional intensity of the memory and allows new, more balanced perspectives to emerge.
EMDR does not require you to talk in detail about the trauma if you do not wish to. Sessions are paced carefully, with a strong emphasis on safety, stabilisation, and your individual readiness.
EMDR can be helpful for trauma and PTSD, anxiety and panic, distressing life events, phobias, and low self-esteem linked to past experiences.
EMDR is always tailored to the individual and delivered within a safe, therapeutic relationship. We work collaboratively, ensuring that you remain in control throughout the process.
